Born in Perth, Seumas began his musical training as a chorister at St Mary’s cathedral, Edinburgh before studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
As a performer, Seumas enjoys exploring a wide variety of repertoire. This is reflected in operatic roles which have included: Tamino (die Zauberflöte), Lensky (Eugene Onegin), Fenton (Falstaff), Spoletta (Tosca) and Borsa (Rigoletto). Roles for Grange Park Opera: Mendel (Fiddler on the Roof) and Pony Express Rider (Fanciulla del West).
He appeared for Dutch National Opera as John Yoo (The New Prince), part of the Opera Forward Festival. Roles for RCS Opera: Soldier (The Kaiser of Atlantis), Lippo Fiorentino (Street Scene), Monsieur Lacouf (Les Mamelles de Tiresias) and Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi). Other recent roles have included Elijah in Navigate the Blood by Gareth Williams and Admiral Fallow for NOISE. Other recent performances include Gherardo (Gianni Schicchi) at Teatro Communale Mario del Monaco in Treviso.
He has appeared as an Alvarez Young Artist at Garsington, a New Generation Artist at Iford arts, and appeared in several productions for Heritage Opera. In 2020, Seumas will appear with Scottish Opera in their productions of Gondoliers and Utopia, Limited. This will include covering the roles of Luiz and Lord Dramaleigh.
Aside from the operatic stage, Seumas appears regularly in concert and oratorio performances in the UK and further afield.
